Production
Composing, recording, mixing, and mastering our own musical projects, we have some idea of the complexities of the process of making music as independent musicians. Currently, we offer mixing, mastering, and remote recording working towards balancing the sound quality of each element to provide a rich texture that blends well for maximum volume enjoyment.
Mixing
$200-$400 per song
Prices for mixing a single song start at $200. Songs that are very complex with a lot of tracks, or are very long may increase the cost.
Mastering
$50-$100 per song
We can do mastering, though if you are putting together an album, we recommend the mastering be done all at once. This will help balance the songs together and help make them sound like they belong on the same album. Prices for mastering a single song range from $50-$100.
Volume discounts
If you have us mix and/or master multiple songs as a project, we can offer you reduced rates. Contact us and let us know more about your project so we can give you a quote.
What makes a great mix?
Making a great mix is more than just setting a good balance between all the elements. For me to call it great, it needs to have a pleasing quality which is hard to put into words, and it makes you want to hear it again. It starts with the raw elements and then gets smoother, warmer, and/or punchier. A great mix should have dynamics and not be completely squashed to maximum level. A great mix should sound great at any volume. The listener shouldn't cringe as the volume is turned up.
During a live show, if the band is having a good time, and the audience is responding, dancing and singing along, that indicates a successful front of house mix. As a performing musician myself, when the monitor mix is good on stage, I have a lot more fun and I put on a better performance. Being a multi-instrumentalist also gives me additional insight as to what each musician needs to hear.
Mixing live sound is particularly interesting to me because there is no feeling quite like experiencing a great live performance. I love mixing the individual elements into something that sounds pleasing, punchy, and exciting, and better than the sum of its parts. A recording made from a performance lets you capture the magic of that performance, but when you mix a live show you set the magic free.
